RARE FISH
Purple Tang – Zebrasoma Xanthurum
The Purple Tang has become a rare fish. Although it had been readily available, in the past, that is no longer the case.
The Purple Tang originates in the Red Sea. Fish from the Red Sea are now difficult to obtain due to concerns about terrorism.
Consequently, the government of Saudi Arabia no longer permits the collection of aquarium fishes from the Red Sea.
As a result, there are few sources to obtain Purple Tangs at this time.
Countryside Aquariums feels fortunate to be able to offer a few specimens of this beautiful fish.
The Purple Tang is relatively easy to care for. Once acclimated, it is very hardy. Like most tangs, the Purple Tang is an herbivore.
It is important that it has algae available to graze upon. This can be accomplished by providing sheets of dried green or red seaweed,
attached to an algae clip. The Purple Tang also will nibble at algae in your tank. Aside from plant material,
the Purple Tang will eat other common foods for marine fishes. It will relish mysis shrimp, krill, mussel and dried food.
The Purple Tang is an excellent reef-safe fish.
